Glow-worm boiler showing a F code in Tipton? What F.28 and F.22 usually mean, the checks that are safe to do yourself, and the point where it needs a gas engineer.
Glow-worm boilers are all over Tipton. You find them in the terraces around Great Bridge and in the newer builds by the canal at Princes End. When one stops, the display shows a code starting with F.
Two come up most. F.28 means the boiler could not light. F.22 means there is not enough water in the system. Pick yours below.
Glow-worm has changed its displays over the years. Keep the manual to hand and check the code against your exact model. If the manual is long gone, a photo of the boiler label is enough to find it.
It means the boiler has shut down on purpose because something was out of range. That is the safety system working. If you ever smell gas, get outside, leave the switches alone and ring the National Gas Emergency number, 0800 111 999.
Give it one go. A code that returns straight away is telling you the cause is still there. Hammering the button will not fix it.
The two brands share a lot of engineering and many codes look alike. Do not assume. Your own manual is the one to trust.
Most visits take one to two hours. The engineer reads the code, tests the likely cause and runs the boiler again before leaving. A part that is not on the van means a second visit.
Read the F.28 page. The boiler made its attempts to ignite, saw no flame and locked out. Often the gas supply, sometimes the ignition parts.
Read the F.22 page. The system is short of water, so the boiler will not fire in case it overheats. Usually a gauge and a filling loop job first.
Note the exact letters and numbers, including any dot. Take a photo of the display. It lets an engineer bring the likely part on the first visit.
Glow-worm uses many more codes than these two. If yours is different, the manual lists them. A photo sent over WhatsApp is the quickest way to get it read.
Your postcode, a photo of the display and one of the label inside the boiler. Say when the code first appeared. If you live near the canal, mention it. Exposed pipework matters in winter.
