Boiler locking out or cutting out in Tipton? We read the fault code and confirm it on the boiler. Great Bridge, Princes End, Ocker Hill and Dudley Port.
A boiler that fires, runs for a few minutes and then stops has usually decided something is unsafe. It has shut itself down on purpose. That is the safety system working.
Resetting it over and over is asking it to ignore whatever it found. On the older stock around Great Bridge, the thing it has found is often a blocked condensate pipe or a system full of sludge.
Almost always, yes. An intermittent lockout is usually a sensor, a pump or the condensate rather than anything structural. The boilers not worth fixing tend to fail properly and stay failed.
Warm water poured along the outside pipe, not boiling, will usually do it. Then reset once. If it freezes again the pipe wants lagging or re-routing. That is a proper fix rather than a yearly ritual.
Most of an hour on site. That covers reading the code, checking gas pressure and flue, and ruling out the circulation side. It is what stops you paying for the wrong part.
The cause. A frozen pipe is cheap to put right. A pump or a flush costs more. The engineer names the cause first, then gives you the cost for that job.
Modern boilers say what they saw. We read it off the display and confirm it on the boiler rather than off a forum. Then we work from there.
The white plastic pipe running outside is the first suspect from December onwards. It is the cheapest fault on this list to put right, and to insulate against next winter.
Sludge in the radiators makes the boiler overheat and lock out, because the heat cannot get away. Terraces near the cut with long pipe runs and original radiators collect it fastest.
Three or four resets in a row can leave you with a genuinely damaged heat exchanger instead of a cheap sensor. If it locks out twice, leave it off and call.
The engineer reads the code, checks gas pressure and the flue, then tests the circulation side. That order stops you paying for the wrong part. It takes most of an hour on site.
A photo of the display and a line on how long the boiler runs before it stops. Tell us if the radiators are cold at the bottom. That points at sludge.
